Final report from 15.03.2023: Finally, the FASZINATION MODELLBAHN 2023 in Mannheim is starting up again with 100% model railroading!
She is back! The FASZINATION MODELLBAHN experienced a brilliant re-launch in Mannheim from March 10-12, 2023. More than 15,000 enthusiastic model railroaders flocked to the Maimarkthalle with their children over the three days of the fair to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of miniature railroading, to experience the model railroad innovations of 2023 live, to discover beautifully detailed display layouts, to experience the hands-on action on offer, and to get professional know-how from the model railroad forum. The great atmosphere on the Maimarkt grounds as well as the positive mood of the exhibitors and especially the visitors made the FASZINATION MODELLBAHN 2023 a complete success!
FASZINATION MODELLBAHN, international trade fair for model railroads and accessories, is the highlight for the model railroad community at the start of the season. Here is 100% guaranteed pleasure in railroad modelling! The latest innovations for 2023 will be presented to the public live and in color for the first time. And that means: many new models, clever technology, electronics, software and equipment awaited the audience in Mannheim. Visitors could look forward to lots of innovations of all gauges and from all eras, analog and digital!
“I would especially like to thank the highly committed and creative clubs and societies as well as the top manufacturers in the industry for a fantastic three days of the trade fair here in the Maimarkthalle Mannheim. Only with them and their passion for the hobby of model railroading can our proven trade show concept – 100% model railroading – be realized,” sums up Sascha Bürkel, Project Manager of Messe Sinsheim. And of course, the 17 (!) magnificent model railroad layouts of clubs and associations from Germany, France and the Netherlands were the stars in the Maimarkthalle. From tinplate to high-tech, they showed the wide variety of rolling stock, figures, motive power, track, sound and lighting solutions, signals, buildings, and landscape equipment. Each individual plant was a unique piece created by master craftsmen and bore the very personal signature of its builder. Everywhere, the enthusiastic railroad fans of all ages could discover little stories and neat gimicks that invited them to marvel, ask questions, and in some cases even try them out. Like, for example, the H0-gauge layout of the Würzburg Model Railroad Club, on which the public could trigger actions themselves. It’s fascinating to see the amount of technology, work and skill that goes into such a small area – perfection down to the smallest detail.
Perfection was just as much the claim of the participants of the popular MIBA private plant competition. At FASZINATION MODELLBAHN 2023, the eight wonderful model railroad exhibits were allowed to compete against each other in a competition organized by the trade show organizer and the trade magazine MIBA. It was not easy for the expert jury to choose the winner. Finally, all miniature models were unique in their ingenuity, implementation and technical finesse. Finally, Heinz-Ulrich Grumpe made it to the top of the winner’s podium with his “Mine Train of the Harz Barite Industry” in H0e scale. The special feature here: All vehicles and buildings were discreetly aged with powder paints as well as pigments and the figures themselves were painted. Congratulations again!
To celebrate there was still another opportunity: We congratulate the MIBA completely cordially to the 75th anniversary and are also this year again proudly together the private plant competition after the slogan ?from the hobby cellar into the limelight ?to be allowed to announce , are pleased Sascha Bürkel over the co-operation of many years with the technical periodical and a successful competition.
The industry leader Märklin had a great show at its booth. The Insider, Trix, and LGB Clubs did the honors, a large Märklin expert crew consisting of technicians, service staff, and layout engineers provided highly competent on-site advice to interested customers, and exclusive products and models provided excitement for rail fans. For example, the unique anniversary model for 30 years of the Märklin Insider Club: a heavy class 44 freight steam locomotive, which was presented to model railroad fans for the first time in the version with a tub tender.
Well-founded technical knowledge for all hobbyists was available in the always well-attended model railroad forum. Peppered with interesting, technically adept presentations and film clips on “railroad romance”, the know-how of the Model Railway Forum enjoyed great popularity with the audience. Railroad romantic Hagen von Ortloff was also quite taken with the great interest in his person and the many fans at his daily autograph session and is already in the midst of preparations for his participation in the FASZINATION MODELLBAU, leading international trade fair for model railroads and model making, which will be held in Friedrichshafen from November 3 to 5.
The many great offers, presentations, colorful play areas for kids & families as well as handicraft and hands-on offers of the exhibitors made the model railroad community at their FASZINATION MODELLBAHN all around happy! And so there was also corresponding joyful feedback from the visitors on the Facebook account of the trade fair: “I was there, went great, made a few bargains again” and “Great day spent in Mannheim, it was worth it”. Thanks for the first class feedback!
Andreas Wittur, authorized signatory of Messe Sinsheim, was also highly satisfied after the three days of the trade show: “The re-launch of the trade show was a complete success with over 15,000 trade show visitors! The exhibitors gave us consistently positive feedback. This confirms to us as organizers that our proven concept as a technical trade fair of high quality at the Mannheim location is working and still offers a lot of potential for the future.
